Veteran Nollywood Actor Olu Jacobs Dies at 84

 

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced his death in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, describing him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, while celebrating his life and legacy.

The family has also asked bloggers and social media users to respect their privacy as they mourn the veteran actor.

Jacobs trained professionally at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London before beginning his career in British television. He later featured in international productions before returning to Nigeria, where he established himself as a prominent figure in the country’s film industry.

Alongside his wife, actress Joke Silva, Jacobs was also involved in film production and management. The couple played key roles in the Lufodo Group and contributed to the development of Nigeria’s performing arts.

His career spanned decades, earning him widespread recognition as one of Nigeria’s respected actors and influential figures in entertainment.
