Suspected Gunmen Kill Seven, Abduct Others in Zamfara Highway Ambush

Suspected armed assailants launched a deadly attack on travelers along the Tsafe-Funtua highway in Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of approximately seven passengers and leaving several others with injuries. The victims were travelling in a commercial vehicle when the incident occurred.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assault took place at around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, shortly before the road was due to be closed as part of a security curfew recently enforced by the Zamfara State Government to combat ongoing attacks on motorists.
A source familiar with the event stated, “The attackers, who were mounted on motorcycles, were crossing the road when they encountered an approaching commercial bus. They immediately opened fire on it.”
The source further noted that the vehicle, which was carrying several women and children, came under heavy gunfire, leading to the deaths of seven individuals on the spot—among them, some children.
In addition to the fatalities, passengers from two other vehicles were reportedly abducted during the ambush.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Zamfara State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
