Forty-six persons have been arrested by the Benue State Police Command over the alleged obstruction of Peter Obi’s movement during his visit to the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, disclosed this in Makurdi, saying the arrests followed intelligence-led operations launched after the incident.
Nwadiogbu said the police had deployed security personnel to protect Obi but were forced to make a tactical decision to prevent the situation from escalating into violence. He said officers later escorted the former Anambra State governor to the airport, where he departed the state safely.
The commissioner stressed that the police response should not be mistaken for inaction, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest others linked to the incident.
He reaffirmed the command’s neutrality and warned that no individual or group has the right to unlawfully obstruct another person’s movement.
