Morayo Brown Warns Parents Against Sending Emotionally Unprepared Teens Abroad for High School

TV host Morayo Brown has cautioned parents against sending teenagers abroad for secondary education without adequately preparing them emotionally for the experience.
Brown gave the warning while reacting to reports that a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy was killed in the United States following an alleged bullying incident.
Sharing her own experience, the television personality recalled being bullied at a US high school after moving there at the age of 15.
She said some of her classmates targeted her because she was African, putting dirty items in her locker and pushing her during morning sports activities.
According to Brown, she did not report the incidents because she was new to the school and wanted to fit in. She added that some students repeatedly made her feel unwelcome.
She also recalled that the bullying intensified as she prepared to attend her school prom.
Reflecting on the experience, Brown advised parents to consider their children’s emotional readiness before sending them abroad for high school.
“University abroad is fine, but high school can be treacherous,” she said.
She also urged parents to maintain regular communication with their children, ask about their experiences and provide the necessary support as they adjust to living and studying in a foreign country.
