INEC uploads preliminary voter register to online portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the preliminary register of voters to its online platform to expand public access ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, announced this in a statement on Monday, explaining that the online publication followed the physical display of the register at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15.

Haruna said the exercise was conducted in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which allows registered voters to inspect their details and submit claims or objections where necessary.

He explained that making the preliminary register available online would complement the physical exercise, improve accessibility and strengthen transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

The INEC official added that the commission was processing claims and objections arising from the exercise before certifying and publishing the final register of voters.

According to him, the final register is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026, as the commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and compliance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
