Guardiola Blasts Man City’s Defensive Gaps After 4-3 Club World Cup Loss to Al Hilal

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has criticised his players following their dramatic 4-3 defeat to Al Hilal in the Club World Cup Round of 16 clash at the Camping World Stadium.

The Spanish tactician expressed frustration over his team’s defensive vulnerability during Al Hilal’s counter-attacks, noting that the Saudi Super Lig side exploited City’s openness with their pace.

The match ended 2-2 in regulation time, with goals from Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland, Marcos Leonardo, and Malcom. In extra time, Kalidou Koulibaly and Leonardo scored for Al Hilal, sealing the win despite Phil Foden pulling one back for City.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Guardiola said:

“We were so open. When the crosses arrived, in the first action, they had the ability to pass the ball and attack, and they’ve quick players.

“We created a lot and had a lot of chances against a team that defends so deep. They punished us on the transitions.”
