The National Sports Commission has confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
Each team official also received the naira equivalent of $50,000, with the accounts of all players and officials credited on September 9, 2026. The NSC said the recipients have confirmed receipt.
D’Tigress secured a record fifth consecutive Afrobasket title and seventh overall in 2025, completing the cash component of the Presidential Reward announced for the team by President Bola Tinubu.
According to a statement signed by NSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the package also included three-bedroom flats in Abuja and national honours of the Order of the Niger.
“With the payment, the entire presidential rewards promised to each member of the team by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR comprising a 3-Bedroom flat in Abuja, national honours of OON and Naira equivalent of $USD 100,000 to players and $USD 50,000 to officials have been fully redeemed and completed,” the statement said.
The commission said title documents for the apartments and certificates of national honours were presented to the team in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France, with the documents signed by Tinubu.
It added that the cash payment followed the team’s participation in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.
The NSC also said the Super Falcons have received title documents for their Abuja apartments and certificates of national honours, presented during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July and August 2026.
The commission said the Falcons’ cash reward, also set at $100,000 per player and $50,000 per official, is expected to be paid before their next official engagements.
The NSC said the rewards reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
