Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will begin their WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign against Niger Republic on Wednesday, as head coach Akeem Busari sees the tournament as an important test ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The encounter is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nigerian time at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro.
Busari says the regional competition will allow his players to assess their readiness and adapt to the demands of major tournaments before the World Cup in Morocco next month.
“This is a preparatory stage for us. We are preparing for the World Cup,” Busari said during his interaction with the media.
“So we want to go to the top and also get familiar with the nature, the pressure and the important points that come with this kind of competition.”
