Concern over security in the South-West is bringing traditional rulers and Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho together for a major stakeholders’ meeting in Ekiti State.
The meeting, scheduled to hold in Ijero Ekiti, will be hosted by the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, is expected to lead monarchs from Oyo, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and parts of Kwara State at the gathering.
Discussions will focus on strengthening security, sustaining peace and improving collaboration between traditional institutions and local security initiatives, including the Iru Ekun Security Network.
The stakeholders are also expected to examine the role of traditional rulers in preventing conflicts and resolving disputes, particularly in rural communities.
Igboho’s media office said the meeting would seek greater synergy between local security groups and formal security agencies to protect communities across the region.
It also commended the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS and other security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity and reducing criminal activities in the South-West.
