As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, President Bola Tinubu says he may not join the All Progressives Congress campaign team at every rally, citing pressing national responsibilities.
Tinubu made this known on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The president said his responsibilities as head of state would require him to remain focused on governance, while campaign officials coordinate activities across states and local government areas.
“Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause”, he said.
He added that he would continue to address Nigerians directly but would not necessarily accompany the campaign team to every engagement.
“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you; we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait”, Tinubu said.
He also stressed the need to attract investors willing to make long-term commitments to Nigeria, noting that economic and financial responsibilities would remain a priority during the campaign.
The president said he agreed with party members who advised him not to allow campaign activities to distract him from governance.
Despite indicating that he might be absent from some campaign engagements, Tinubu pledged to remain committed to the APC manifesto and the promises made to Nigerians.
He commended the party for successfully conducting its congresses and electing leaders at ward, local government, state and national levels, despite predictions of an internal crisis.
Tinubu recalled that the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting, held on December 19, 2025, ratified the congress programme.
Describing the campaign council as a platform for taking his administration’s record and agenda to Nigerians, the president urged members to work towards securing victory in the 2027 elections.
He warned that the party’s assignment would not be complete until it secured votes across the country, urging campaign officials to deliver their respective wards and ensure victory at the polls.
