All Progressives Congress governors have been cautioned against pursuing other political offices at the expense of their responsibilities to the electorate, with Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urging them to complete their constitutionally permitted eight-year tenure.
Akpabio gave the advice on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Drawing from his experience as a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, he urged the governors to remain committed to their constituents rather than abandon them in pursuit of other political ambitions.
“For my brothers who are governors, I want you to know that you must not abandon your people”, he said.
Akpabio maintained that governors should focus on fulfilling their mandates instead of seeking positions that may not be available.
He attributed his own political success to maintaining a strong relationship with the electorate, noting that he had been active in politics for more than 25 years.
“I have been in this business for over 25 years, and I always win. And why I always win is because I stand with people. Go and mend your clothes when they are not torn”, he said.
Meanwhile, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on members of the presidential campaign council to acknowledge the challenges facing the Tinubu administration while highlighting its achievements and policy objectives.
In his welcome address, Yilwatda said the campaign must provide Nigerians with an honest assessment of the government’s performance, including its progress, shortcomings and plans for the future.
He urged the council to clearly communicate what the administration had completed, what remained in progress and what it hoped to achieve if re-elected in 2027.
The APC chairman also stressed the need to demonstrate how government policies and investments would improve the lives of Nigerians.
He said the party was seeking a fresh mandate for President Bola Tinubu to consolidate ongoing reforms and advance its development agenda.
The inauguration formally launched the APC’s presidential campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general election, with party leaders urging members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and build nationwide support.
