The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal particulars of candidates for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election. This follows the conclusion of party primaries by 16 political parties and the submission of candidates’ nomination forms by the deadline of 6 p.m. on May 12, 2025, after which the dedicated portal was automatically closed.
The publication was announced in a statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, titled ‘Publications of Personal Particulars of Candidates for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election’. The election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
INEC has called on Nigerians to review the candidates’ documents and encouraged anyone with reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate provided false information to challenge the nomination in court.
The commission also confirmed that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, which is at least 150 days before the election. This publication is in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
In its statement, INEC urged the public to scrutinize the details of the candidates and reminded aspirants who have grounds to believe that any candidate submitted false information that they can seek legal redress by challenging the nomination in the Federal High Court, as provided under Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
The final list of candidates, in line with the electoral timeline, will be made available on June 9, 2025, ahead of the November election.
