The confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja has sparked reactions on X, with some Nigerians questioning the timing of the development and alleging possible political motives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Some users have expressed concerns that the outbreak could be used as a justification for restricting movement, limiting political gatherings or affecting voter turnout. However, the claims remain unsubstantiated.
The Federal Government on Tuesday confirmed that a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda tested positive for Ebola. She is currently receiving treatment in isolation at a private hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.
Health authorities also disclosed that 44 close contacts had been identified, including healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and travel contacts. The individuals are being monitored as part of efforts to prevent further transmission.
Despite the public health response, the announcement has generated suspicion among some Nigerians on social media, with several users drawing links between the outbreak and preparations for the 2027 elections.
The claims have circulated online amid concerns over the outbreak, although no evidence has been presented to substantiate allegations that the case is connected to the 2027 elections.
