Nigeria has begun local production of next-generation dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated mosquito nets as part of efforts to strengthen malaria prevention and boost local manufacturing.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare announced the development in a statement signed by its Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Ado Bako.
The new facility, Health Textiles Nigeria FZE, owned by Vestergaard Sàrl, is the first in Nigeria to produce dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated nets.
The factory will manufacture PermaNet Dual, a World Health Organisation-prequalified mosquito net designed to combat the growing problem of insecticide resistance.
At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce about 10 million nets annually and create more than 600 jobs. About 80 workers have already been recruited and are undergoing training.
The Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Pate, said the development would strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare value chain through increased investment and local production of essential health products.
The facility was established following a 2024 agreement between Vestergaard and the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain. The ministry said production would help expand Nigeria’s capacity to supply malaria prevention products locally.
