Barcelona sporting director Deco believes Lamine Yamal deserves to be considered the leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an influential season for club and country.
Speaking to RAC1, Deco highlighted the teenager’s impact, describing him as “decisive” during the period under review.
“Lamine should be the favorite for the Ballon d’Or. For me, no doubts.
“Remember everything he’s done with Barça and the national team.
“He’s had some decisive moments, even going to the World Cup with an injury. Last season was key.”
Yamal helped Barcelona secure the LaLiga and Copa del Rey titles last season before featuring for Spain at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The 19-year-old has also been named among the 30 players shortlisted for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
