Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has highlighted the importance of the upcoming Eko International pre-season tournament in preparing his team for the 2025-26 football season.
The Pride of Rivers are among the clubs set to feature in the Lagos-based competition, where they will begin their campaign against Shooting Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Finidi emphasized that his side will treat the tournament with the utmost seriousness as they aim to evaluate their progress and fine-tune tactics developed during pre-season training.
“We have an opportunity to evaluate the work we have put in after four weeks. We will approach this preseason with every seriousness and see how it goes,” the former Super Eagles winger said.
He noted that the tournament offers a valuable chance to assess the squad and make necessary adjustments ahead of the competitive season.
“We want to look at the team, build on our strength and if there are still areas to correct, we see and work on it. The team is still in progress,” he added.
Rivers United are also preparing for a continental campaign, as they get set to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
