Toluwanisings’ Widow, Family Resolve Burial Dispute After Online Backlash

The family of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has resolved its disagreement over his burial arrangements, with his widow, Damilola Olayemi, and his father reportedly agreeing to have him buried at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The development was announced by the singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in an Instagram video on Sunday.

The disagreement had attracted public attention after members of the singer’s family alleged in a viral interview that his 32-year-old widow opposed their plan to bury him at their family home in Ibadan.

According to the family, Olayemi had preferred that her husband’s remains be interred in a cemetery.

The singer’s father reportedly opposed the suggestion, insisting that his son should be taken to his hometown for burial, preferably beside his late mother, if burial at his Ibadan residence was not possible.

The disagreement generated widespread reactions on social media, with some users criticising the widow and questioning her position on the burial arrangements. Others called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

However, Alewilese has described the dispute as a misunderstanding that has now been settled.

He also appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking the widow, describing her as an accommodating person and urging the public to consider the difficult circumstances she is facing.

“Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this,” he said.

Alewilese further confirmed that the widow and her father-in-law had reached an agreement on the burial location.

“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding. The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house.

“Please, Nigerians, let there be peace. If you truly love the singer, let his wife have peace now that his burial place has been resolved,” he added.

The development marks a resolution to the public disagreement over the late singer’s final resting place, following days of reactions and criticism directed at his widow.
