Governor Alia Orders Swift Crackdown on Killers of Two Benue Youths

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has issued a stern directive for an immediate manhunt following the brutal killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir–Oju road.

According to security sources, the victims were ambushed and murdered while riding a motorcycle from Oju, in what has been described as a senseless and unprovoked attack.

In a statement, Governor Alia also condemned a separate violent incident in the Nyifon community, Mbaikyongo Ward of Buruku Local Government Area.

The attack, reportedly rooted in a dispute over a boat mishap, was allegedly carried out by youths from the neighboring Mbayaka community in Kusuv, also in Buruku LGA.

“These incidents are deeply troubling, inexcusable, and must not be allowed to fester,” Governor Alia declared. “No individual or group has the right to invade another community or inflict harm—regardless of the circumstances.”

The Governor has directed all relevant security agencies to launch coordinated operations in collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders.

He gave a 48-hour ultimatum for the arrest and identification of all those responsible, emphasizing that they must be brought to justice without delay.

“Benue State has made significant progress in restoring peace and stability. I will not allow criminal elements to reverse our hard-earned gains,” Alia said firmly.

He assured citizens of his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The Governor also called on all communities to maintain peace, remain law-abiding, and support ongoing investigations to ensure justice is served.
