The Senate is considering a proposal by President Bola Tinubu to replace the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria with a National School of Government aimed at improving leadership and public service delivery.
Tinubu’s request was conveyed in a letter transmitting the National School of Government Bill 2026, which Senate President Godswill Akpabio read during plenary on Wednesday.
In the letter, the President urged lawmakers to expedite consideration of the bill, citing its potential to strengthen leadership development, policy implementation and the capacity of public officials.
The proposed legislation seeks to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act, A-4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and establish a new legal framework for the National School of Government.
If passed, the institution will serve as a national centre for leadership training and executive capacity development, equipping public officials to translate government policies into effective outcomes.
