Ten women have now been found dead in South Africa’s Ekurhuleni municipality over the past two months, following the discovery of another body in Tembisa.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the latest death and whether it is connected to the nine other cases recorded in the area.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the body was discovered on Saturday, with crime scene officers and other relevant agencies deployed to the location.
The victims, mostly women in their 20s and 30s, were reportedly found in various locations, with some showing signs of sexual assault.
The first victim, a 37-year-old woman, was found naked and bound with cable ties on July 15. A suspect was arrested two days later.
Two women, aged 31 and 38, were also arrested and charged in connection with the ninth victim. Police said that case may have been linked to a relationship dispute.
The discoveries have heightened concerns over gender-based violence in South Africa, a country that continues to grapple with high levels of violent crime.
