After nearly three decades off the calendar, the Nigeria Open Golf Tournament is set to return in November 2027.
The Nigeria Golf Federation says the tournament will hold from November 16 to 20, marking its first edition since 1999.
Federation President, Olusegun Runsewe, said preparations are underway to reposition Nigerian golf and bring the competition in line with international standards.
“We are very happy to announce that we will be organising a befitting Nigerian Open Golf Tournament, the biggest golfing event in the country after two decades of absence”, he said.
More than 20 countries are expected to participate, with between 150 and 200 golfers competing in the 64-hole Pro-Am event.
The federation is also considering Lakowe Golf Resort in Lagos as a possible venue, while plans include adopting the World Handicap System and introducing stronger sponsorship and marketing structures.
“This is going to be a new beginning for golf in Nigeria”, Runsewe said.
He added that youth development and professional coaching would also form part of the federation’s plans to modernise golf in the country.
“Training in golf is more IT-based now as the world is advancing and we don’t want Nigeria to be left behind”, he said.
