A fresh leadership shake-up has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kano State, with the party’s National Working Committee dissolving the entire State Working Committee with immediate effect.
The decision, contained in a letter dated September 24 and signed by the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, leaves the North-West Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state pending the emergence of a new executive. The ward and local government structures remain unaffected.
The dissolved chairman, Bello Gambo Bichi, said he accepted the decision as part of efforts to reconcile factions and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bichi linked the move to the recent replacement of the party’s Kano governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, with Muhammad Sani Abacha, saying the dissolution of the state executive was one of the conditions attached to the reconciliation process.
The PDP had earlier conducted an affirmation and replacement primary in Kano following Dalhatu’s withdrawal, with Abacha emerging as the party’s new governorship candidate for 2027.
