Nigeria’s senior women’s national basketball team head coach, Rena Wakama, has officially announced an extensive 21-player list for an upcoming developmental training camp and exhibition tour across the United States. The intensive program is scheduled to begin this Saturday, as the reigning African champions prepare for a series of high-level encounters against elite professional competition in the WNBA.
The roster features a strong core of experienced veterans, including standout playmakers Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara, alongside formidable interior presence Victoria Macaulay. These established stars will lead the group as they test their mettle against three of the most prominent franchises in the American top flight. The tour’s itinerary begins with a clash against the Los Angeles Sparks on April 25, followed by a matchup with the Minnesota Lynx on April 27, and concludes with an encounter against the Indiana Fever on May 2.
This American tour serves as a foundational element of the team’s strategic preparation for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Coach Wakama intends to use the rigorous schedule to refine team chemistry and evaluate player readiness against world-class opposition ahead of the global showcase.
The 2026 World Cup is set to take place in Berlin, Germany, with the tournament running from September 4 to 13. By facing WNBA-level intensity months in advance, D’Tigress aims to build the necessary momentum to improve upon their previous international performances and solidify their standing as a global basketball powerhouse.
