Two familiar faces from Nollywood, Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi, have joined the Enugu State Government following their appointments as political aides to Governor Peter Mbah.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Monday.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. The actress, whose full name is Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State and is widely recognised for her role in the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series.
Her portfolio places her in charge of responsibilities relating to the development of the state’s film and wider creative industry.
Veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for the Enugu-North Zone.
Anunobi rose to prominence in Nollywood in the 1990s and has appeared in more than 90 films. She later became an evangelist.
The appointments were part of a wider list of aides approved by Mbah, covering Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants. The appointments took effect immediately.
Okonkwo’s appointment gives the film and creative industry a dedicated government portfolio, while Anunobi’s role focuses on women mobilisation within the Enugu-North Zone.
The development marks a move from the entertainment industry into public service for both actresses, with their new responsibilities extending beyond their established careers in Nollywood.
