Kano state government is stepping up efforts to tackle drug abuse, with the state’s Multi-Agency Task Force targeting more than 10,000 drug users for rehabilitation.
The programme will combine rehabilitation with skills acquisition, as authorities seek to help beneficiaries recover and reintegrate into society.
Chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Gado, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the agency’s headquarters.
He said the state government had provided an additional facility in Tofa Local Government Area to expand the Kano State Reformatory Institute in Kiru.
According to him, the expansion became necessary after the facility reached capacity, following growing public acceptance of the task force’s operations.
Rimin Gado also disclosed that about 125 people had already been referred to Kiru for rehabilitation, while the agency is investigating an allegation involving the illegal administration of Pentazocine to a 63-year-old woman.
He urged residents to provide useful information to support the fight against drug abuse and commended security agencies and other partner organisations for their cooperation.
