Elderly healthcare tops PDP candidate Aondoakaa’s agenda

Improved healthcare for elderly citizens is at the centre of a fresh campaign promise by the PDP governorship candidate in Benue State, Michael Aondoakaa.

Aondoakaa says, if elected governor in 2027, he will establish specialised geriatric units in hospitals across the state to provide free basic healthcare and minor surgical procedures for senior citizens.

The former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice said the proposal is part of his broader agenda covering healthcare, security, pensioners’ welfare, infrastructure and prudent management of public resources.

He said government has a responsibility to care for citizens who contributed to the development of the state during their productive years.

Aondoakaa also identified healthcare and security as key priorities, while maintaining that ranching should remain primarily a private venture, with government providing the necessary enabling environment.

On pensioners’ welfare, he expressed concern over outstanding pensions and gratuities owed retired civil servants, arguing that payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities should be treated as basic government obligations.

On infrastructure, Aondoakaa promised a more professional approach to major projects, with greater use of the expertise and institutional knowledge of career civil servants in planning and implementation.
