The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has indicated that it is taking steps to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over alleged anti-party activities.
Speaking during a televised interview, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed that the party has established a committee to investigate multiple petitions lodged against the former Governor of Rivers State.
Abdullahi noted that many within the party believe Wike’s continued presence is more of a liability than an asset. He stressed that the PDP is prepared to take decisive action against anyone standing in the way of its progress, including removing individuals whose actions contradict the party’s vision and goals.
“The last time I checked, Wike was still a PDP member. He hasn’t officially renounced his membership. But truthfully, many believe his presence has become a disadvantage,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that the party would not allow internal saboteurs to derail its mission: “Anyone who poses a threat to the PDP’s growth is better off outside the party. We need to unify and refocus if we’re to restore true democratic hope to Nigeria.”
Abdullahi emphasized that no individual, regardless of status, is bigger than the PDP. “No single person has the power to bring the PDP to its knees. If Wike is not aligning with the interests of the party, he is free to walk away.”
He confirmed that the disciplinary committee is currently reviewing several cases of alleged anti-party activities, and Wike’s name has repeatedly appeared in the petitions received.
“Once the committee finalizes its findings, we won’t hesitate to take action. We’re ready to rid the party of anyone whose actions undermine our objectives,” Abdullahi declared.
This development comes at a tense moment for the PDP, as former Vice President and two-time presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, also recently resigned from the PDP, deepening internal fractures within the opposition party.
