NLC confirms a halt to the strike as a result of Tinubu’s intervention

Following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and the Senate, the Nigeria Labour Congress has stated that its scheduled strike has been suspended.

The National Executive Council of the Congress meeting was followed by the resolution.

The national treasurer, Hakeem Ambali, in a terse message sent to our correspondent this morning (Thursday), said, “ Protest suspended due to the Senate intervention and meeting with President Tinubu yesternight.”

The NLC protest, which was held yesterday across the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory prompted an emergency meeting between the President and the labour leaders.

The NLC had first said that it would only call off its strike if the government demonstrated its commitment.

Anger-filled protestors tried to break through the National Assembly’s gates during the demonstration in Abuja on Wednesday in order to meet with the MPs.

After the meeting with Tinubu, NLC President Joe Ajaero said that the President had made certain pledges and the public will soon receive a briefing from the labor center.
