Natasha Osawaru, the Edo State lawmaker and wife of Nigerian music star 2Baba, has been named the new Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, assumed the position during plenary on Monday as the Assembly announced changes to its principal leadership structure.
Her emergence followed a broader reshuffling of leadership positions within the state legislature.
The lawmaker now holds the minority leadership position under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), months after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May 2026.
In a statement shared on her Facebook page, Osawaru described the new responsibility as a mandate rather than a mere political title.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said.
She added that effective democracy requires robust debate, accountability and the willingness of lawmakers to represent citizens without compromising their responsibilities.
The new appointment adds another political responsibility to Osawaru’s role as the representative of Egor Constituency in the state legislature.
Her emergence as minority leader also comes amid public attention surrounding her marriage to singer 2Baba, with reports in recent weeks focusing on tensions within the couple’s relationship.
However, the lawmaker’s appointment to the Assembly leadership position is a separate political development.
Osawaru’s elevation comes as the Edo Assembly begins a new phase following its latest leadership reshuffle, with lawmakers expected to take on their respective roles as legislative activities continue.
