Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear he has little interest in the group of players currently training away from the first team—commonly referred to as the “bomb squad.”
The Italian tactician revealed that his knowledge of these players’ situations comes solely through updates from the club’s hierarchy, rather than from direct involvement.
Chelsea are actively working to streamline their squad during the summer window, with several players expected to leave as part of the reshuffle. Among those training separately are senior figures Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, both of whom are believed to be on the club’s list of potential outgoings.
Addressing questions around Lesley Ugochukwu’s recent move to Burnley, Maresca commented:
“I only receive these kinds of updates from the club, because I don’t focus on the players who are training away and are expected to depart. My attention is solely on preparing sessions and finding the best way to win matches.”
