Kano witholds 10,000 workers’ salaries, demotes others employed by Ganduje

Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has directed the immediate suspension of salaries of 10,000 workers pending the conclusion of investigation.

The affected civil servants were employed by the immediate past administration.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had raised alarm over the last minute employment offer issued to thousands of young people by the former Governor, warned the beneficiaries to prepare against the consequences.

The Governor Yusuf also ordered demotion of all local government workers converted to state civil service during the tenure of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Accountant General of the state, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam said the order will stand pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into the financial system of the state.

He explained that a committee has been set up to investigate the engagement of the new employees adding that only the outcome of the investigation would determine the fate of the new workers.

The Accountant General also announced suspension of transfer made by the previous government within the civil service against existing rules adding that status quo ante should be maintained by the affected government officials.

He, however, expressed the readiness of the new administration to pay workers salary by 25th of every month, as he revealed that pension and gratuity would be paid to retired worker as when due.
