Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, joined dignitaries and mourners in Daura on Tuesday to pay her final respects at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs. Tinubu was seen offering comfort and support to Aisha Buhari, the grieving widow of the late president, during a deeply emotional moment at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, where the remains of the former leader arrived earlier in the day.
The First Lady, who has previously described Buhari as a “pillar of service to the nation,” was accompanied by a delegation of prominent women leaders, including Fatimah Abbas, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives; Hajiya Laila Barau, wife of the Deputy Senate President; and Zarah Ribadu, wife of the National Security Adviser.
The somber reunion between Mrs. Tinubu and Mrs. Buhari drew the attention of mourners and family members, symbolizing solidarity and unity at a time of national mourning.
As tributes continue to pour in from across Nigeria and the global community, the presence of the First Lady and her delegation underscores the significance of Buhari’s legacy and the respect accorded to him by both his contemporaries and successors.
