A cyberattack has compromised the personal data of about 8.7 million customers at three major airports in the United Kingdom.
Manchester Airports Group, which operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, said the breach affected customer information including email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes.
The attack occurred over the weekend, with the airport group discovering the incident on Tuesday.
MAG said the breach was carried out by an unauthorised third party and involved data linked to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings, as well as in-airport WiFi registrations.
However, the company said the incident did not disrupt airport operations, flights or passenger safety.
It also confirmed that bank and payment details were not compromised.
MAG said it moved quickly to contain the breach and is working with cybersecurity specialists to protect affected customers and its systems.
The incident comes amid a series of major cyberattacks targeting businesses across the UK, with companies including Jaguar Land Rover, Marks and Spencer, Harrods and the Co-op previously hit by cyber incidents.
