Asake Under Fire By the Christian Community

Popular Afrobeat musician Asake, receives harsh criticism for allegedly mocking Christianity in the wake of the release of his music video.

The Christian community criticized the artist for certain images in the music video just a few hours after he unveiled the visuals for his song “Only Me.”

In the video for his new song, Asake, alongside his backup singers and dancers, portrayed themselves as priests conducting a mass in a Catholic church with angelic rings on their heads.

Solomon Buchi, alongside several Nigerians, expressed ridicule on social media for Asake’s choice of props.

Buchi labelled Asake’s actions “disrespectful” and questioned why Christians still supported his music.

In his words;

“Asake keeps disrespecting the Christian faith in his music videos. Dramatizing giving the Eucharist, robed up in priestly regalia for a music video that has no connection with Christianity is disrespectful.

In his Bandana video, he depicts black goats trooping into the church, with cloven tongues of fire above weird men. Asake, I think, is a Muslim. Why doesn’t he go above and beyond to embarrass his Muslim faith in this same way?

Why do Christians even listen to these musicians who bluntly disrespect Christianity?”
