Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 percent increase in monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions and ordered the immediate implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and university unions.
The governor’s spokesperson, Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the measures were aimed at strengthening tertiary education and addressing persistent underfunding.
According to the statement, the approvals take effect immediately, with financial arrangements already being processed by the state Ministry of Finance.
The increased subvention is expected to strengthen the institutions’ capacity to meet their obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and improve the learning environment.
The governor also approved the implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions to address staff welfare and align the state-owned institutions with national standards.
The statement said Aiyedatiwa directed the institutions’ managements to use the additional funds judiciously, prioritise staff welfare and promote academic excellence.
He also urged the unions to maintain industrial harmony and focus on providing quality education.
