Troops Bust Gunrunning Syndicate in Taraba, Arrest Two Suspects, Recover AK-47

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, have uncovered and dismantled a suspected gunrunning syndicate in southern Taraba State, seizing weapons and arresting two suspects in a swift tactical operation.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops stormed Byepyi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area, where the suspects were reportedly operating. The coordinated operation led to the arrest of 55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.

A statement issued by the 6 Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, revealed that a follow-up search based on confessions from the suspects led to the recovery of:

One AK-47 rifle, One AK-47 magazine, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, One Tecno mobile phone, One Bajaj motorcycle.

The suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary investigation to uncover the full extent of the arms network.

Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and rapid response, noting that the operation aligns with the Brigade’s intensified campaign against the proliferation of illegal arms and criminal elements in the region.

“Our troops remain resolute in neutralizing threats and dismantling criminal networks. There will be no safe haven for armed groups in Taraba or within our operational area,” Brig. Gen. Uwa stated.

He also lauded residents of Taraba State for their continued cooperation and called on them to remain vigilant and proactive by sharing timely and credible information with security agencies to enhance coordinated action against banditry, arms trafficking, and other criminal activities.
