Tributes Pour In As Afenifere Leader Fasoranti Dies At 100

Nigeria has lost one of its most enduring political voices with the death of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the elder statesman, educationist and National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, who died at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy of political activism, education and public service.

Born on May 11, 1926, in Akure, Ondo State, Fasoranti founded Omolere Nursery School and Akure High School.

A devoted follower of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he was active in the Action Group and Unity Party of Nigeria, serving as Ondo State Commissioner for Finance from 1979 to 1983.

As Afenifere leader, he championed true federalism, restructuring, democracy and good governance.

President Bola Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Seyi Makinde and Dapo Abiodun mourned him, praising his commitment to justice and selfless service.

Fasoranti celebrated his centenary in May 2026. His legacy endures through his contributions to education, democracy and the pursuit of a fairer Nigeria.
