President expresses sorrow over the loss of over 200 lives in Ahmedabad crash, reaffirms Nigeria’s solidarity with India.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of over 200 people.

The ill-fated London-bound flight, carrying two pilots, 10 crew members, and passengers from multiple countries — including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian — crashed into a hostel in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night, leaving widespread devastation.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on June 12, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended prayers to the bereaved families and the affected nations.

“The tragedy of Air India reminds us, once again, of the fragility of life and the common bond of humanity that holds us together,” Tinubu said.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with India during this time of grief, stating, “At this moment of sorrow and pain, Nigeria stands in solidarity with our friend, brother, and partner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India.”

The president also conveyed sympathies to the families of non-Indian victims, acknowledging the grief in the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Canada.

President Tinubu lauded the swift response of Indian emergency services, expressing confidence in their ability to handle the crisis with compassion and professionalism.

Concluding his message, Tinubu offered prayers, saying, “The Almighty God will receive the souls of the departed and comfort their families.”

The international aviation community remains in mourning as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
