Fadahunsi Apologises for Remarks That Sparked Tension in Ijesaland

Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised for remarks he made during a campaign visit to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III.
Fadahunsi said his comments were made while he was seeking justice over the deaths of members of his political party and expressing his grief over the killings.
According to the senator, his emotional appeal was subsequently interpreted by critics as a call for violence, a characterisation he rejected.
He maintained that he never advocated chaos or violence, explaining that his words came at a difficult time when he was deeply affected by the deaths of party supporters.
Senator praises Owa’s response
Fadahunsi expressed appreciation to the Owa of Ijesaland for the manner in which he handled the controversy.
The senator praised the monarch for remaining calm and demonstrating what he described as the wisdom expected of a traditional ruler, despite claims that his remarks had been disrespectful to the palace.
He said the Owa acted as a father to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, and that his response helped prevent the situation from escalating.
Fadahunsi said political leaders must place the welfare of the people above personal emotions and partisan differences.
He stressed that peace in Osun State, particularly in Ijesaland, was more important than the outcome of any election or political disagreement.
“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” he said.
‘My call for justice remains’
While apologising for the tension generated by his remarks, Fadahunsi said he had not withdrawn his demand for an investigation into the deaths of his party members.
He called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the killings and ensure that those responsible face justice through lawful means.
The senator also urged his supporters and other residents to embrace peace and avoid actions capable of worsening tensions in the state.
He appealed to the people to respect the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and unity across Ijesaland.
Fadahunsi said he would continue to pursue justice for the victims while encouraging all sides to put political differences aside and work towards reconciliation.
The statement was signed by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR.
