Tinubu Approves One-Year Tenure Extension for Customs CG Amid Ongoing Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year tenure extension for Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, extending his term from its initial August 31, 2025, expiry to August 2026.

In a statement issued on Thursday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the extension is intended to allow Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and drive the administration’s strategic priorities.

These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and fulfilment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership, integrity, and dedication to service, expressing confidence that the renewed term would strengthen the Customs Service in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

Adeniyi, who first assumed office in an acting capacity in June 2023, was confirmed as Comptroller-General in October 2023.
