Teenager Dies During France World Cup Victory Celebrations

A 17-year-old girl has died after being crushed by a lorry during celebrations following France’s World Cup victory over Morocco in northern France.

The teenager was among thousands of supporters celebrating in Aulnoye-Aymeries when she climbed onto the side of a moving lorry with other fans.

Police said she fell onto the road and was struck by the same vehicle. Despite attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight.

“She had climbed onto the side of a lorry, along with others, but fell onto the road.
The teenager was then crushed by the same vehicle. Attempts were made to revive her, but she was declared dead at the scene soon after midnight,” the police spokesperson said.

The lorry driver has been arrested and is expected to undergo alcohol and drug tests as investigations continue.

Three other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries and signs of shock.

The incident occurred as supporters across France celebrated the national team’s 2-0 win over Morocco, which secured their place in the World Cup semi-finals.

Authorities had warned fans against climbing onto moving vehicles during football celebrations, a practice that has become common after major victories.

Despite concerns over possible unrest, French police reported largely peaceful celebrations, with only a small number of arrests recorded in Paris and other areas.
