PTAD Pays N3.9bn Arrears to Over 91,000 Pensioners Under Defined Benefit Scheme

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has completed the disbursement of N3.9bn in arrears to 91,146 eligible pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

The announcement was made in Abuja on Friday through a statement by PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, who said the payments were part of the N32,000 increment recently approved by President Bola Tinubu for DBS pensioners.

Ajayi provided a breakdown of the disbursements as follows:

  • N1.9bn to 59,865 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department
  • N830m to 12,976 pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department
  • N620m to 9,689 pensioners under the Police Pension Department
  • N551m to 8,616 pensioners under the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department

The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to paying all outstanding arrears and improving the welfare of retired workers under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier, PTAD had announced that implementation of the new pension increases for DBS pensioners would begin with the September 2025 payroll cycle.

The increment package includes:

  • A fixed N32,000 addition
  • Percentage increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for specific eligible categories

According to PTAD, the adjustment is expected to benefit approximately 832,000 pensioners currently under its management.
