Pistis Foundation Takes Free Medical, Surgical Outreach to Lagos Communities

Residents of underserved communities in Lagos will have access to free medical consultations, diagnostic tests, dental and eye care, medications and selected surgical procedures as Pistis Foundation brings its UBOMI Medical and Surgical Outreach to the state from October 19 to 23.

The five-day exercise will take place at Pistis Annex, No. 3 Remi Olowude Street, Eti-Osa, as part of the foundation’s efforts to bridge healthcare gaps and ensure that financial constraints do not prevent people from receiving essential medical attention.

The Lagos outreach follows an edition held in Ibadan, Oyo State, from September 21 to 25, which recorded 10,292 medical interventions for 3,611 beneficiaries.

According to the foundation, the Ibadan exercise featured 2,121 medical consultations, 2,515 laboratory tests and screenings, 1,740 pharmacy interventions, 701 eye-care services and 438 dental-care services. It also recorded 109 theatre surgeries and 100 eye surgeries.

The foundation said the Lagos edition would prioritise people who face financial barriers to accessing healthcare, with all services provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

However, patients requiring surgical procedures will undergo pre-screening to determine their eligibility for treatment.

Speaking ahead of the outreach, the Executive Director of Pistis Foundation, Leonard Thomas, said the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden that often prevents people from seeking medical care.

Thomas stressed that access to healthcare should not depend on an individual’s ability to pay, noting that financial difficulties should not force people to endure pain, live with treatable conditions or postpone necessary medical attention.

He reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to bringing medical and surgical services closer to underserved communities, particularly those whose residents struggle to afford healthcare.

Similarly, the Board Chairman of Pistis Foundation and Senior Lead Pastor of The Elevation Church, Gorman Akinlabi, said the outreach reflected the organisation’s commitment to expanding access to essential health services.

Akinlabi disclosed that the foundation, which is marking eight years of humanitarian work, had recorded nearly 60,000 medical interventions through its UBOMI programme since its inception.

The foundation urged community leaders and residents to help publicise the forthcoming Lagos exercise, particularly among individuals who may be unable to afford medical consultations, diagnostic tests and other essential healthcare services.

The outreach is expected to provide beneficiaries with an opportunity to access medical attention at no cost while encouraging early diagnosis and treatment of health conditions.
