PDP Zoning Committee Confirms 2027 Presidential Ticket for South

Nigeria’s main opposition party finalizes zoning ahead of 2027, retaining its leadership structure while shifting the presidency southward.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, setting the stage for Nigeria’s next general elections.

The decision was announced after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where leaders deliberated on recommendations from the Zoning Committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

Speaking to journalists after the session, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the move aligns with the party’s zoning framework and existing balance of power.

He added that the NEC resolved to maintain the current National Working Committee (NWC) zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s elective convention slated for November.

“Since the national chairmanship remains in the North, the 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to the South,” Ologunagba said.

The zoning decision is expected to intensify political activities within the PDP as southern stakeholders begin strategizing for the party’s flagbearer, while northern leaders focus on retaining key party offices.

With zoning now settled, attention shifts to the November convention, where the PDP will further solidify its structure as it prepares to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
