NUPRC Warns Public Against Fake Social Media Accounts Impersonating Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued a stern warning to the public over a surge of fake social media accounts falsely claiming to belong to its Commission Chief Executive (CCE), Gbenga Komolafe.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, the Commission said that Komolafe does not operate any social media account not on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.

“For the sake of clarity, the Commission Chief Executive has no social media accounts. Members of the public are therefore advised against interacting with such pages in order to avoid being defrauded,” the statement read.

The NUPRC warned that these fraudulent accounts were being used by impostors to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians, urging the public to avoid engaging or sharing personal information with them.

The Commission advised that all verified information about its activities, policies, and statistics should only be obtained from its official digital platforms and website www.nuprc.gov.ng.

“The public is enjoined to be wary of the antics of impersonators while efforts are being made to bring fraudsters to book,” the statement added.

This development comes amid a growing wave of impersonation scams targeting public officials, with fraudsters creating fake online identities to solicit money or sensitive data from citizens.
