A fresh clarification has emerged over the composition of Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign team, with former CBN Deputy Governor, Kingsley Moghalu, rejecting his inclusion in the campaign’s Policy Team.
The development follows the unveiling of Atiku’s campaign structure, with Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman, and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
The campaign said its Policy Team will focus on proposals addressing the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was published as a member of the team unveiled on Thursday.
The economist and former presidential candidate said he was surprised by the announcement, insisting that he has remained outside partisan politics since 2022.
“For the record: I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.
“I am NOT, in fact a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity”, Moghalu said.
He added that he remains non-partisan despite his continued involvement in national affairs.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathiser of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.
Moghalu currently serves as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation, IGET Africa, and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies.
He said his commitment to Nigeria does not require partisan alignment.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship”, he said.
