Mangut rues Nasarawa United’s losing start

Nasarawa United head coach Mbwas Mangut has expressed disappointment after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Barau FC in their opening Nigeria Premier Football League fixture.

The Solid Miners started their 2026/27 campaign on a losing note at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday.

Both sides found the net in an evenly contested first half before Barau FC took control late in the encounter.

Al’Amin Umar and Suga Aliyu struck in the closing stages to secure victory for the hosts.

Mangut believes his team deserved a better outcome, despite failing to convert several chances.

“My wards played better, but were unlucky to score from the avalanche of opportunities we had,” Mangut told the club’s media.

“It’s definitely not the way to start the new season, but we will analyse our mistakes, regroup, and bounce back stronger, beginning from our next match.”

Nasarawa United will look to respond when they welcome Bendel Insurance to the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.
