Lagos State is set to revolutionize public transport along the Lekki–Epe corridor with the launch of its regulated bus operations on December 8, 2025.
The first phase of the Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme will see 229 high- and medium-capacity buses deployed to enhance safety, comfort, and reliability for commuters.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced on its X handle that the initiative will introduce exclusive, government-regulated bus services along key routes, including Ajah–CMS (Marina)/Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger, and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.
One operator will run a fast express service, while others will operate stage-by-stage services, ensuring comprehensive coverage for commuters along the corridor.
All participating buses will feature Lagos’ signature blue-and-white colors, QR-enabled PTCS verification stickers, unique identification codes, and Touch and Pay (TAP) stickers for seamless, cashless transactions.
LAMATA emphasized that this reform is the result of extensive collaboration between the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, LAMATA, and representatives of informal bus operators, following a final stakeholder meeting ahead of the rollout.
The program is designed to instill operational discipline, improve commuter safety and comfort, and provide a more reliable and secure public transport experience.
This first phase marks a significant step toward transforming Lagos’ public transport system, with plans to ultimately extend the service fully to Epe, making daily commuting safer, faster, and more convenient for residents.
