Timipre Sylva’s resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been followed by a fresh call from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the former Bayelsa State governor to appear before the agency for questioning.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, made the call on Monday while reacting to Sylva’s allegation that the anti-graft agency had recently acted more as an organ of the APC than as an institution of the state.
“He has been declared wanted; he should make himself available to the commission”, Oyewale said.
Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, announced his resignation from the APC on Monday, accusing the ruling party of abandoning its founding ideals and the administration of President Bola Tinubu of disappointing the majority of Nigerians.
In his resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of Ward 4 in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Sylva said his decision followed consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and supporters.
The former governor, who described himself as a founding member of the APC, said he was saddened by what he called the abandonment of the principles upon which the party was established.
“As a founding member of the APC, and one who joined other well-meaning Nigerians in building the Party with sweat and money, it is deeply saddening to witness how the ideals we espoused have been so thoroughly and unrecognisably thwarted”, he said.
Sylva said he could no longer remain in a party whose leaders appeared to believe that “all is fair in politics”, stressing that basic decency and morality should guide political conduct.
He also accused the APC-led Federal Government of disappointing most Nigerians, saying he could neither see a credible attempt nor any possibility of revamping the administration.
The former governor has been under EFCC investigation since 2025 over allegations involving the dishonest conversion of 14.86 million dollars.
The EFCC declared Sylva wanted in connection with the alleged fraud and has urged him to report to the commission for questioning.
