Nollywood actress and producer Faithia Williams has paid tribute to late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, recalling the role he played in helping her find her footing in Nigeria after returning from London.
Williams spoke about the late actor at his eight-day Fidau prayer held on Monday, where she reflected on their professional relationship and his influence on her journey in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
According to the actress, Ogogo’s reception when she joined the Odunfa theatre group made her feel accepted at a time when she was settling back into the country.
She described the veteran actor as more than a boss, saying his presence and support contributed significantly to her personal and professional development.
“Ogogo wasn’t just a boss to me; he was someone who contributed greatly to my person when I came back from London to join Nigerians at Odunfa. He was there for me, and I was greatly and warmly welcomed. He was honest, peaceful and irreplaceable,” Williams said.
Her tribute adds to the growing number of remembrances from colleagues following Ogogo’s death.
The veteran actor died on Sunday, August 23, after battling stage-four cancer. His daughter, Kira, announced his death during a live broadcast.
Ogogo was buried on Monday, August 24, with colleagues, friends and associates gathering to pay their final respects.
Williams also highlighted the qualities that made the actor respected within the Yoruba film and theatre community, describing him as an honest and peaceful man whose absence would be deeply felt.
Ogogo’s death has continued to prompt tributes from members of the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly those who worked with him during his long career in Yoruba theatre and cinema.
